Lesley Birch, born in Glasgow, 1958 is interested in all the arts; writing songs and poetry in the 1980s, teaching literature and drama in the 1990s and now expressing her creativity through art.
Originally a musician touring with Scottish band Hue and Cry in the 198os, Lesley went on to earn a living as an English and Drama teacher. She embraced painting and printing whilst living in the cultrally inspiring city of Cambridge.
Since 2000 she has produced landscape paintngs and prints, successfully selling in Cambridge and North Yorkshire, where she now lives. She has attended painting and drawing classes , experimenting with gouache, watercolour, collage and pastel. She continues to explore print making at Harrogate College.
She produces mixed media paintings, most often on square canvases, using liberal applications of oil and acrylic paint in the primary colours. Often she will use collage to create texture and depth as well as pastels and watercolour.
Her abstract prints use 100 year old printing techniques dealing with the passage time and its effect on the landscape. She has recently completed a series of monoprints entitled Time and Place.
Lesley has exhibited in group exhibitions in Cambridge and Yorkshire. Most recently she had a piece selected for the prominet Leeds City Gallery Artists' Show 2006 and the prestigious Yorkshire Club in Albion Place, Leeds 2006.
