Dexter is a York-based artist. His work is always based around re-creating words and names which somehow influenced him in the previous decades of his life, and through this trying to make sense of the new century.
Dexter attempts to draw us into his world of nostalgic reflections of the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s by developing large-format block text pieces containing hundreds of words, product names, television programme titles, band names and cultural icons and obscurities taken from specific decades of his and our lives. These re-creations of cultural icons and obscurities have been shown as large format test installations at Leeds City Art Gallery, Scarborough Art Gallery, Pocklington Arts Centre, Edinburgh Festival and through various group and solo shows in York.
